Nwifuru’s Education Investments Transforming Ebonyi’s Future

The Ebonyi State Government says its sustained investments in education are laying a strong foundation for long-term development and human capital growth across the state.

As Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru approaches his third year in office, the administration highlighted a series of achievements in the education sector aimed at improving access, infrastructure, staff welfare and opportunities for students.
According to the government, more than 700 Ebonyi indigenes are currently benefiting from fully funded Master’s and PhD scholarship programmes in the United Kingdom and within Nigeria, as part of efforts to equip young people with global knowledge and skills.

The administration also noted that Ebonyi State University has witnessed significant improvements, while academic staff of the institution now enjoy a 20 per cent salary increase. Non-academic staff were also granted a 10 per cent salary upgrade to boost morale and productivity.
In a move to encourage academic excellence, the state government said first-class graduates of the university are now entitled to automatic employment and scholarship opportunities.

The government further disclosed that the establishment of universities focused on ICT and Aeronautics Engineering is progressing steadily, with emphasis placed on quality development and innovation-driven learning.
To ease transportation challenges faced by students, the administration introduced free transportation services using CNG buses for students travelling to and from universities within the state.

At the basic education level, the government said over 39 model secondary schools, comprising 22 classroom blocks, are currently under construction, while pilot primary schools are also being developed across various communities.

In addition, more than 50 twelve-classroom blocks under the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) intervention are nearing completion, alongside the free distribution of learning materials to students.

The state government maintained that the investments reflect its commitment to building future generations through quality education, describing education as the foundation of sustainable impact and development in Ebonyi State.

Officials said the programmes align with the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda, which prioritises education, youth empowerment and social development.
