NLC, Pensioners Union Debunk Fake Gratuity Registration Directive In Imo
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Imo State have dismissed as false and misleading a circulating message directing pensioners to submit their personal details to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government for payment of gratuities.
In a joint statement issued by the leadership of both unions, the organizations clarified that the purported directive did not emanate from either the NLC or the NUP and should be disregarded by pensioners and members of the public.
The labour bodies explained that discussions with the Imo State Government regarding the payment of the next batch of gratuities were still ongoing, adding that Governor Hope Uzodinma remained committed to fulfilling his promise on gratuity payments.
The unions warned pensioners against falling victim to fraudsters or unauthorized individuals requesting money or personal information in connection with gratuity payments.
They advised all concerned pensioners to rely only on official communication channels and to seek clarification or updates directly from the Nigeria Union of Pensioners office or the Nigeria Labour Congress secretariat in the state.
According to the statement, the leadership of organized labour remains committed to protecting the welfare and interests of pensioners and workers at all times.
The statement was jointly signed by the Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Imo State, Comrade Uche Chigemezu Nwigwe, and the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Comrade Dr. JB Ugochukwu.
