Diri Orders Fresh Round Of Project Commissioning, Moves To Restore Peace In Ogboinbiri
Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has directed the Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, to draw up a schedule for another round of project commissioning across the state.
Governor Diri gave the directive on Wednesday during the 186th State Executive Council meeting at Government House, Yenagoa, stating that several projects executed by his administration had been completed and were ready for inauguration.
According to the governor, the Prosperity Administration remained committed to delivering impactful infrastructure and development projects to the people of the state.
“We are going to do another round of commissioning of projects. We have a lot of completed projects we are yet to commission. The deputy governor and SSG should set up a schedule for the commissioning of our projects,” Diri said.
The governor also directed the deputy governor and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to immediately put in place an interim leadership structure for Ogboinbiri community following the earlier dissolution of the community’s Chiefs Council, Community Development Committee (CDC), and youth organisation.
The move, according to him, was aimed at restoring peace and stability in the troubled community.
Speaking on the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 general elections, Governor Diri urged political actors seeking elective offices to adhere strictly to laid-down rules and existing political arrangements in their various constituencies.
He advised aspirants to engage stakeholders in their areas and respect zoning considerations where applicable, particularly in the selection of legislative candidates.
“We are in the political season. For the legislature, you don’t just send people there once or else you will be having neophytes. So, for those areas, first timers should be considered, unless there are issues of zoning,” the governor stated.
Diri also used the occasion to receive awards presented to the Bayelsa State Government in recognition of its achievements in the areas of healthcare delivery, human rights promotion, and the blue economy sector.
