Fubara Withdraws from Rivers APC Gubernatorial Primaries, Cites Peace and Unity
Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has officially announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries, saying the decision was taken in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in the state.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Governor Fubara said the decision followed extensive consultations with his family, friends, and political associates. He stressed that while the move was difficult, it was necessary for the greater good of the state and the unity of the APC.
According to the governor, leadership demands sacrifice, adding that personal ambition must sometimes give way to the collective interest of the people.
“Rivers State is bigger than any individual, and at this critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of our dear state must take precedence over every personal interest,” he stated.
Fubara expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty, prayers, and sacrifices throughout his political journey, acknowledging that many may feel disappointed by his withdrawal. He, however, assured them that their support was not in vain and explained that his silence in recent weeks had been “deliberate and strategic,” guided by the higher interest of the state.
The governor hinted at facing intense political pressure and difficult decisions during the process but maintained that his commitment to the peace and progress of Rivers State remained unwavering.
Using a traditional proverb, Fubara noted that “not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace,” emphasizing that some realities are best handled with wisdom and restraint in order to preserve peace.
He also thanked the All Progressives Congress for providing him a platform throughout the process and expressed gratitude to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.
Governor Fubara urged APC members and supporters across the state to remain united and committed to the party’s collective vision, regardless of the outcome of the primaries.
He clarified that his withdrawal from the forthcoming gubernatorial contest should not be interpreted as an act of weakness or surrender, but rather as a conscious sacrifice aimed at ensuring peace and unity in Rivers State.
Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State diligently until the completion of his tenure.
