Eno Reaffirms Partnership With Air Force, Commends 309 Composite Group Establishment In Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained partnership with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to enhance security and protect critical national infrastructure and maritime assets within the state.

Governor Eno made this known on April 30, 2026, while receiving the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Uyo.
The governor commended the NAF for its role, alongside other security agencies, in addressing security challenges across the country, particularly insurgency, and assured of continued support from the state government to enable the force to effectively discharge its responsibilities.

He expressed appreciation to the Chief of Air Staff for the establishment of the 309 Composite Group in Eket, noting that the initiative would significantly strengthen the protection of key maritime and economic assets in Akwa Ibom State.
Governor Eno also congratulated Air Marshal Aneke on his appointment, praising his professional achievements and commitment to excellence, which he said have adequately prepared him for the responsibilities of his office.

Earlier, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Aneke, thanked the governor for his warm reception, visionary leadership, and consistent support to the Nigerian Air Force, which he said facilitated the swift establishment and operational take-off of the 309 Composite Group in Eket.
He assured the state of increased national security investments and commended Akwa Ibom for embracing the additional responsibility associated with hosting the formation, reiterating his commitment to promoting peace, security, and development.

Describing the operational framework of the new unit, the Air Force chief explained that while conventional Air Force units are typically homogeneous—operating a single platform for specific missions—a composite group is a self-sufficient formation comprising diverse aircraft and support units under a unified command structure, designed to execute multiple missions efficiently.
According to him, the establishment of the 309 Composite Group is a strategic move to bolster security in the Niger Delta region and safeguard vital economic assets critical to both the state and the nation.

He noted that the formation would enhance aerial surveillance, enable rapid response to emerging security threats, support maritime and coastal operations, and provide critical assistance during disaster response situations.

Air Marshal Aneke called for deeper collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force, the Akwa Ibom State Government, local communities, and other security agencies to maintain a stable and secure environment conducive to investment, economic growth, and the overall well-being of citizens.
The Chief of Air Staff was accompanied on the visit by top Air Force officials, including the Chief of Air Intelligence, N. N. Ananaba; Chief of Logistics, H. N. Yurkursi; Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, M. N. Onyebashi; Air Secretary, C. O. Obiabaka; Director of Public Relations and Information, E. A. Ejodome; Air Vice Marshal Ukpong; and the Commander of the 309 Composite Group, Eket, O. I. Ogbuka.

Also present to receive the delegation alongside the governor were the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; the Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr. Aniefiok Johnson; members of the State Executive Council; and other top government officials and stakeholders.
