Ebonyi APC Stakeholders Back Consensus Candidacy Ahead Of 2027 Elections
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State have endorsed the adoption of a consensus candidacy approach for the 2027 general elections, throwing their weight behind Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
The decision follows a series of enlarged consultative meetings convened by the governor across the state’s three senatorial districts as part of efforts to foster unity within the party and avert potential internal conflicts ahead of the polls.
The meetings were held at various venues, including the Christian Ecumenical Centre for Ebonyi South, the party secretariat along Water Works Road in Abakaliki for Ebonyi North, and Remeritona Hotels for Ebonyi Central. The gatherings aimed to secure unanimous agreement on candidates to represent the party in the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate elections.
Although consensus was reached in most constituencies, a few were initially stepped down due to disagreements among stakeholders.
However, at a follow-up meeting held on Friday at the Governor’s Office, attended by an expanded group of party leaders—including former governors, deputy governors, members of the National Assembly, principal officers of the State House of Assembly, former ministers, and ambassadors—the stakeholders resolved all outstanding issues and fully adopted the consensus arrangement.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, described the deliberations as productive and in the best interest of the party.
“As stakeholders of the party, we convened a meeting with our members. Following the earlier meeting of Tuesday, April 28, 2026, today’s meeting has been very productive. Every stakeholder agreed that this is the best way to run a party,” he said.
He added that all constituencies had now aligned with the consensus approach, eliminating the need for internal contests.
Anyim further disclosed that stakeholders urged Governor Nwifuru to sustain his governance strategy, noting that it aligns with global democratic ideals and promotes unity within the party.
The consensus arrangement is widely seen as a strategic move by the APC in Ebonyi State to strengthen internal cohesion and position the party for a united front in the 2027 elections.
