APC Primaries In Benue Reflect Growing Unity, Confidence In Governor Alia — Presidency
The recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Benue State have been described as a major demonstration of party unity, grassroots participation, and growing confidence in the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The week-long exercise, which produced candidates for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship, and Presidential elections, was widely adjudged peaceful, coordinated, and transparent across the state.
From Makurdi to rural communities including Obagaji, Agila, Anwase, and Chito, party members reportedly turned out in large numbers, reflecting renewed enthusiasm and commitment to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Observers noted that unlike previous political exercises often marred by violence and confusion, the primaries were conducted in an orderly atmosphere with minimal rancour, a development many stakeholders attributed to the leadership style of Governor Alia.
Since assuming office, the governor has consistently pursued inclusive governance and reconciliation among party stakeholders, efforts believed to have strengthened cohesion within the APC in Benue State. His administration’s emphasis on grassroots engagement, fairness, and people-oriented programmes has also been credited with restoring confidence among party faithful.
The statement further highlighted the role played by party officials and electoral committees in ensuring compliance with APC guidelines during the conduct of the primaries. Security agencies were equally commended for maintaining peace and professionalism throughout the exercise.
Speaking on the outcome of the nationwide APC primaries, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the process across the states.
“I am very satisfied that governors have done well in their various states,” the President said.
“In fact, from the ward congresses to local government congresses, delegate accreditation, validation, membership registration, and the certification of the electoral process, it has been done very well, and with this, you could rate democracy at a high level.”
Political analysts say the peaceful conduct of the Benue APC primaries has projected the party in the state as more organized and united, while also energizing its support base ahead of the next general elections.
The report was signed by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State.
