Uzodimma Lauds Ebere, Seeks Support For Ongoing development In Owerri
Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has called for continued public support for the administration’s development efforts in Owerri, the state capital, while commending the immediate past Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Sir Ebere Macdonald Kelechi, for his contributions to the growth of the party.
Speaking at a civic reception held in honour of Ebere in Owerri on Saturday, the Governor described him as “one of our best,” noting that the event was organised to appreciate God for his successful tenure and his recent appointment, which he attributed to “the goodness of the Lord and the wisdom of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Governor Uzodimma explained that although Ebere could have continued in office as state party chairman, considerations of equity and political stability informed the leadership changes within the party.
He further highlighted his personal relationship with the honouree, saying, “He is not just my political friend; his wife is my cousin. Our relationship is organic.”
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to urban renewal, the Governor stressed the importance of developing Owerri into a befitting capital city.
“If Owerri looks good, Imo looks good,” he said, adding that the state is currently implementing a 25-year Development Plan already approved by the State House of Assembly.
He also cautioned against illegal acquisition of government land, warning that all land remains under government control as provided by law. “Stop taking government land unlawfully. If land is needed, approach the government,” he cautioned.
Governor Uzodimma urged residents to support ongoing infrastructure and urban development projects, insisting that a well-planned capital city is essential to the state’s progress and collective pride.
In his remarks, Sir Ebere expressed gratitude to Governor Uzodimma, President Tinubu, the APC leadership, and the people of Owerri Zone for the confidence reposed in him, pledging continued loyalty to the party.
He particularly appreciated the Governor’s support over the years, stating, “Without you, I wouldn’t be here today,” while acknowledging his pivotal role in both his academic and political journey.
Reflecting on his tenure as APC Chairman, Ebere thanked the Governor for guidance and support, which he said contributed to his success, and also tendered an apology for any inconveniences caused during his leadership.
He further appealed for the reallocation of Area ‘K’ land to indigenes of Owerri, noting that much of their ancestral land had been affected by capital city development. He also requested financial assistance for a young boy in need of kidney transplant surgery.
