Nwifuru Felicitates Catholic Women On Mothering Sunday
Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has commended Catholic women for their vital contributions to family stability, moral upbringing, and community development across the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday to mark this year’s Mothering Sunday, the governor praised the role of mothers as pillars of faith and societal growth, noting their enduring sacrifices, resilience, and devotion to both family and society.
He urged Catholic women to emulate the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary, particularly her humility and commitment to spiritual growth, describing her as a model of motherhood.
Nwifuru highlighted the significance of Mothering Sunday, describing it as more than a religious observance but a recognition of the sacred role of motherhood and the impact women have in shaping future generations.
“I celebrate our mothers as the moral compass of our homes and co-custodians of faith, whose contributions continue to strengthen the fabric of our society,” he said.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of women, especially those in rural communities, under the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.
He specifically referenced the Better Health for Rural Women (BERWO) initiative, the pet project of the First Lady, which he said has significantly improved access to healthcare, maternal support, and health education for thousands of women across the state.
According to him, the programme has evolved into a broad-based intervention focused on addressing health and welfare challenges faced by rural women, while reducing preventable diseases.
Nwifuru further noted that ongoing investments in infrastructure, healthcare, security, agriculture, and human capital development are designed to directly benefit women by enhancing livelihoods and easing access to essential services.
He called on mothers to continue promoting values of faith, discipline, and peace, while also praying for the continued progress and stability of Ebonyi State.
