All Abducted Benue Links Passengers Rescued, Seven Suspects Arrested — Alia

All passengers abducted from a Benue Links bus along the Makurdi–Otukpo corridor have been successfully rescued following coordinated security operations, Governor Hyacinth Alia has confirmed.

The incident, which occurred on April 15, 2026, at the Taraku axis in Gwer-East Local Government Area, saw passengers taken by suspected criminal elements.
Addressing the rescued victims at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the operation, attributing the success to the sustained efforts of security agencies.

“I am pleased to confirm that, following sustained and coordinated operations by our security agencies, all the abducted persons have been safely rescued,” he said.
The governor disclosed that seven suspects connected to the abduction are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

“I have directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend all remaining accomplices and dismantle the criminal networks responsible,” he added.
Governor Alia commended the Commissioner of Police, the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Benue State Civil Protection Guards, and local vigilante groups for their professionalism, resilience, and effective collaboration. He also acknowledged the critical support of local communities in achieving the successful rescue.

He expressed particular concern for eight students among the victims who were on their way to sit for their Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations at the time of the incident.

“I have directed that arrangements be made with the relevant authorities to ensure they are given a fair opportunity to complete their examinations, while government extends necessary support to them,” the governor stated.

According to him, all rescued victims have been directed to undergo immediate medical evaluation to ensure their full recovery.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, Governor Alia stressed that efforts would be intensified to secure communities across the state.

“We will continue to strengthen security operations, clear identified criminal hideouts, and ensure that our roads and communities are safe for all our people,” he said.

He further appreciated the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police for their swift response and reinforcement during the operation.

“Let me reiterate that we will not relent until lasting peace and security is fully restored across our dear state,” he said.
