Ekeremor Chairman Marks Two Years In Office, Reaffirms Commitment To Development
The Executive Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area, Hon. Onniye Isaac (Ph.D), has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained infrastructural development and people-oriented governance as he marks two years in office.
The Chairman gave the assurance during an inspection tour of the ongoing construction of a one-kilometre Council Secretariat Access Road linking the Ekeremor/Agge Express Road. The project is among the landmark initiatives of his administration aimed at improving accessibility and stimulating socio-economic activities within the area.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Thorpe Okokoyoh, the road project—currently at an advanced sand-filling stage—is progressing steadily towards completion. Upon delivery, it is expected to ease transportation challenges, improve connectivity, and enhance movement around the Council Secretariat and neighbouring communities.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Onniye expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, while charging the project engineer to maintain high construction standards and ensure timely completion.
Reflecting on his administration’s two-year scorecard, the Chairman highlighted notable achievements across key sectors, including infrastructure, education, youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and economic development.
He listed completed projects to include the construction of a 200-by-6-metre concrete walkway in Isrealo Zion Community, as well as similar walkways in Obrugbene and Peretorugbene communities. The administration also undertook the renovation and rehabilitation of classroom blocks in Angalaweigbene Community and Temekiri Zion.
In addition, solar electrification projects have been executed at the Ekeremor Council Secretariat and Azagbene Community, improving access to reliable power supply.
On human capital development, the Chairman noted that over 1,000 youths, men, and women have been trained in onshore and offshore rigging, safety management, and catering services to boost employability and local capacity.
In the education sector, the council awarded scholarships to students of Ekeremor origin, including 36 undergraduates, 10 PhD candidates, 15 Master’s degree students, and 11 law students. It also sponsored free registration for WAEC, NECO, and JAMB examinations for students across the local government area.
To strengthen the local economy and boost internally generated revenue, the administration initiated the Ekeremor LGA Mechanised Commercial Fish Farming Project.
Hon. Onniye also underscored his administration’s commitment to peace and stability, noting that proactive engagements and executive measures have helped restore calm in previously restive communities, including Peretorugbene, Normgbene, and Ekeremor.
He assured residents that his administration remains focused on delivering more impactful projects and programmes aimed at improving living standards and promoting sustainable development across the local government area.
