Umahi Inaugurates Infrastructure Team For 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council…Charges Members to Document Federal Government Projects Nationwide
The Minister of Works and Deputy Director-General (DDG), Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Senator David Umahi, has inaugurated members of his office to strengthen infrastructure-related communication, mobilisation and public sensitisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Umahi inaugurated the team during its inaugural meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, October 15, 2026, where he called for collaboration, mutual understanding and effective working relationships among members to ensure the successful execution of their assigned responsibilities.
He urged members to demonstrate commitment, professionalism and a shared sense of purpose, stressing the importance of coordinated engagement in communicating infrastructure developments and their impact on Nigerians.
The minister explained that the team's primary responsibility was to identify, document, compile and publicise infrastructure projects being executed by the Federal Government through its ministries, extra-ministerial departments and agencies (MDAs).
He noted that although the Federal Ministry of Works accounts for a significant proportion of the government's infrastructure investments, the team's mandate must extend to projects undertaken by other MDAs to provide a comprehensive picture of infrastructure development across the country's six geopolitical zones.
Consequently, Umahi charged the Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement for the six geopolitical zones, who have been appointed as zonal coordinators, alongside other members of the Office of the DDG and its secretary, to work collaboratively in identifying and documenting relevant projects within their respective areas of responsibility.
He emphasised that the exercise must capture infrastructure projects executed by the Federal Ministry of Works as well as those undertaken by other MDAs, with a view to presenting a comprehensive account of the infrastructure investments and developmental initiatives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope administration.
According to him, the initiative is designed to improve the coordination and presentation of information on infrastructure projects at the zonal, subnational and national levels.
The minister clarified that existing publicity activities undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Works and the Senior Special Assistants to the President would continue, adding that the newly inaugurated office would provide a broader framework for coordinating information on infrastructure projects across government institutions.
He maintained that effective documentation, communication and public sensitisation were essential to ensuring that accurate information about government projects reached the general public.
Umahi also highlighted the importance of infrastructure development in driving economic growth, promoting national development and strengthening community integration.
According to him, infrastructure investments stimulate economic activities, connect communities, create opportunities and support the growth of other sectors of the economy.
Speaking on the Federal Government's adoption of continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) technology in road construction, the minister said the approach was helping to reduce dependence on imported bitumen while encouraging the use of locally available resources and expertise.
He explained that the technology supports local economic activities, reduces foreign exchange demand associated with imported road construction materials and promotes more sustainable infrastructure delivery through durable road construction.
Umahi urged members of the Office of the DDG to discharge their duties diligently and professionally, emphasising that accurate information gathering and effective dissemination were crucial to achieving the team's objectives.
The inauguration marks an initial step towards strengthening infrastructure-related communication, mobilisation and public sensitisation within the Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation Directorate of the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council.
