Uhunmwode Chairman Moves To Sanction Absentee Staff, Warns HODs

The Executive Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government Council, Edo State, Hon. Austin Imafidon, popularly known as ISIWINA, has warned council staff, particularly Heads of Departments (HODs), against absenteeism and dereliction of duty, threatening disciplinary action against officers who violate public service regulations.

Imafidon gave the warning on Thursday during a staff attendance verification exercise at the council secretariat in Ehor, which he personally supervised to assess punctuality, commitment to duty and compliance with established public service rules.

The exercise was aimed at strengthening discipline, improving staff accountability and enhancing the efficiency of service delivery across the local government council.

The Deputy Director of Administration and General Services, Mr. Edward Okosun, served as the recorder, documenting the names of staff members present and those absent during the exercise.

Expressing displeasure over the absence of some staff members, particularly departmental heads, the chairman stressed that officers occupying supervisory positions must demonstrate exemplary leadership, discipline and dedication to their responsibilities.

He noted that the conduct of Heads of Departments directly influences the productivity and discipline of personnel under their supervision, insisting that those entrusted with leadership responsibilities must lead by example.

Imafidon consequently directed that proper attendance records be maintained, warning that any officer found absent without official permission or reasonable justification would face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with extant public service rules.

He added that his administration would not tolerate habitual absenteeism, lateness, negligence or other forms of misconduct capable of undermining effective service delivery at the grassroots.

The council chairman reaffirmed his administration's commitment to building a disciplined, accountable and result-oriented workforce, stressing that the transformation of Uhunmwode Local Government must be supported by improved staff performance and commitment to public service.

He urged all council employees, particularly Heads of Departments, to take their official responsibilities seriously and contribute meaningfully to the achievement of his administration's developmental objectives.
