Oyarekwa: Nigeria Can Do Better, Akoko-Edo Constituency 2 Must Do Better

Dr. Austine Oyarekwa Felix, the NDP candidate for Akoko-Edo Constituency II in the 2027 Edo State House of Assembly election, has called for greater accountability, purposeful leadership and active citizen participation as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Oyarekwa, in an Independence Day message to Nigerians and the people of Akoko-Edo Constituency II, said the significance of independence goes beyond the freedom attained in 1960, stressing that it also carries the responsibility to build a nation where citizens can live, work, learn and prosper with dignity.

He said Nigeria possesses enormous human and natural resources, as well as creativity and resilience, needed to achieve greater development, but added that purposeful leadership, accountable representation and visionary thinking are essential to translating the country's potential into tangible progress.

Speaking specifically on Akoko-Edo Constituency II, Oyarekwa said the people deserve representation focused on practical development, including quality education, youth empowerment, healthcare, security, infrastructure and economic opportunities.

According to him, the future of the constituency cannot be built on promises alone but requires action, accountability and leadership that places the interests of the people at the centre of governance.

He urged residents to move beyond complaints and become active participants in shaping the future of their communities by asking questions, demanding accountability, supporting credible ideas and holding elected leaders to their promises.

Oyarekwa particularly encouraged young people in Akoko-Edo to recognise the importance of their voices and participation in determining the future of the constituency.

He also called on elders, professionals, women, farmers, business owners and community leaders to contribute to the development of Akoko-Edo, stressing that building a better future requires collective effort.

“This campaign is about more than an individual. It is about a renewed commitment to purposeful leadership, responsible representation and a better future for our people,” he said.

Oyarekwa concluded by urging Nigerians and the people of Akoko-Edo to embrace active participation and collective action in building stronger communities.

“Nigeria can do better. Akoko-Edo can do better. And together, we can demand better, work for better and build better,” he said.

He wished Nigerians a happy Independence Day and called on the people to “rise, participate and build” for a better future.
