OSR Champions Girl Child Empowerment, Calls For Equal Opportunities

As the world commemorates the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, Hon. Osazee Richard OSR has called for greater investment in the education, protection and empowerment of girls, stressing the need to create opportunities for every girl child to achieve her full potential.

In a statement issued to mark the occasion, the Oredo Federal Constituency political figure joined millions of people around the world in celebrating the resilience, brilliance and potential of girls, describing their empowerment as both a moral responsibility and a strategic investment in society's future.

According to him, educating and protecting girls while ensuring equal access to opportunities are essential steps towards building an inclusive society and raising future leaders capable of driving meaningful change.

"This year's theme reminds us that when a girl is educated, protected, and given equal opportunities, she becomes a catalyst for change," he stated.

OSR stressed the need to dismantle barriers that prevent girls from accessing quality education, adequate healthcare, leadership opportunities and other essential resources required for their personal development.

He also called on parents, community leaders, government institutions and other stakeholders to work together to safeguard the rights of girls and create an environment where they can pursue their dreams without discrimination, fear or unnecessary limitations.

Addressing young girls, he encouraged them to believe in themselves, recognise their worth and remain determined to achieve their aspirations.

"To every young girl: You are seen. You are valued. Your voice matters, and your future is bright. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise," he added.

The ADC figure reaffirmed the importance of sustained collective action to protect the rights and dignity of the girl child, emphasising that the commitment to their welfare must extend beyond the annual celebration.

He noted that investing in girls today would contribute to stronger families, more resilient communities and a better future for generations to come.

OSR's message aligns with growing calls for increased attention to girls' rights, education, safety and participation in decision-making, particularly in communities where social and economic barriers continue to limit their opportunities.

As the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child is observed, he urged all stakeholders to translate the celebration into practical action that guarantees every girl the opportunity to learn, grow, lead and succeed.

For a better future for the girl child across Oredo Federal Constituency, OSR calls for sustained commitment to the protection, education and empowerment of every girl.
