Osawaru’s Legislative Record, Community Advocacy Take Centre Stage Ahead Of 2027
A group of concerned citizens and stakeholders in Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon Federal Constituency of Edo State has highlighted the legislative activities and community advocacy of the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Famous Osawaru, as discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
In a statement signed by the Concerned Citizens and Stakeholders for Good Governance in Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon Federal Constituency, the group cited Osawaru’s legislative interventions, sponsorship of bills, motions, petitions and constituency development initiatives as evidence of his efforts to address the needs and aspirations of his constituents.
The group particularly referenced his presentation of a petition at the House of Representatives concerning the alleged marginalisation of the Orogho community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, involving Seplat West and Seplat Energy.
According to the group, the petition underscores the importance of addressing the concerns of oil-bearing communities over corporate social responsibility, environmental challenges, economic opportunities and equitable treatment.
It maintained that legislative intervention on such matters provides an avenue for affected communities to seek redress and draw national attention to issues requiring corporate and governmental accountability.
The group further described the Orogho community petition as part of what it considers Osawaru’s broader efforts to use his position in the 10th National Assembly to raise issues affecting residents of Uhunmwode and Orhionmwon.
On legislation, the stakeholders cited the proposed Federal College of Agriculture, Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Establishment Bill and the Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Bill among the initiatives they said were aimed at expanding educational opportunities, attracting federal investment and creating employment opportunities within the constituency.
They also claimed that Osawaru had moved more than 18 motions and petitions addressing issues ranging from infrastructure deficits and community land concerns to resource distribution and peaceful coexistence.
On constituency development, the group highlighted reported road-grading projects in rural communities, solar streetlight installations and empowerment initiatives targeting small business owners and farmers.
It argued that such interventions were important to improving rural connectivity, strengthening community security and supporting local economic activities.
The stakeholders said effective representation should be assessed through legislative engagement, responsiveness to constituents and initiatives capable of addressing identified community needs.
They added that the combination of legislative proposals, motions, petitions and development interventions formed the basis of their assessment of Osawaru’s record in the current National Assembly.
As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to attract attention, the group called on traditional leaders, women, youths and other stakeholders across Uhunmwode and Orhionmwon to consider the lawmaker’s record in assessing the future representation of the constituency.
The statement also advocated continuity in representation, arguing that experience gained through legislative service could contribute to the pursuit of outstanding development priorities.
The group maintained its support for Osawaru’s return to the House of Representatives in 2027, describing his continued representation as an opportunity to sustain legislative advocacy and constituency development.
However, the specific outcomes of the bills, motions and projects cited by the group, including their implementation status and measurable impact, remain important considerations in assessing the overall performance of the lawmaker.
