Federal High Court Strikes Out Asemota’s Application In BIBI’s NDC Ticket Suit
Hon. Sunny Aguebor, popularly know as BIBI, has announced a fresh development in the ongoing legal battle over the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Edo South Senatorial District ticket, following the striking out of one of the applications filed by the legal team representing Mrs. Epele Osayuki Asemota.
BIBI, in a press statement, said the development occurred during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Benin City, where his counsel challenged what he described as an abuse of court process arising from multiple appearances and applications filed by Asemota’s legal team.
According to him, his counsel drew the attention of the court to the alleged procedural irregularities, prompting a response from Asemota’s lawyer.
BIBI further alleged that the presiding judge admonished Asemota’s counsel over the conduct of the proceedings and cautioned against actions capable of bringing the judiciary into disrepute.
He stated that the court subsequently struck out one of the applications filed by Asemota’s legal team.
Describing the development as significant to his ongoing legal battle, BIBI expressed confidence that the judicial process would ultimately vindicate his position in the dispute over the NDC Edo South senatorial ticket.
The controversy is linked to the party’s senatorial primary conducted on May 29, 2026, which BIBI maintains he won. The dispute has generated competing claims over the rightful candidate of the NDC for Edo South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
BIBI urged the people of Edo South to remain calm and allow the judicial process to run its course, expressing optimism that justice would prevail.
He maintained that he would reclaim what he described as his mandate in due course.
However, the striking out of one application does not, in itself, settle the substantive dispute over the party’s senatorial ticket. The final outcome will depend on the court’s determination of the issues before it.
