Eseigbe Solidarity Movement Hails Okpebholo On Leadership Award, Commends Muslim Inclusion
The Eseigbe Solidarity Movement (ESM) has congratulated Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on his receipt of the Outstanding Leadership, Muslim Inclusion and Representation in Governance Award from the Edo State Council for Islamic Affairs (EDSCIA).
The movement described the award as recognition of the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance, religious tolerance and the participation of Muslims in public service.
In a statement issued by its Director-General of Domestic Affairs, Hon. Idalu Unugbe, popularly known as SONATA, and made available by the Eseigbe Media Team, the ESM also congratulated the Muslim community in Edo State, commending its leadership for acknowledging the governor’s efforts to promote religious inclusion and harmonious coexistence.
The movement noted that the appointment of Muslims to strategic government positions underscored the importance of giving people from diverse religious backgrounds opportunities to contribute to governance and the development of the state.
It also expressed confidence in Governor Okpebholo’s assurance to examine concerns raised by the Muslim community, particularly those relating to Islamic Religious Studies in public schools, the rights of Muslim women to wear hijab and the provision of prayer facilities for Muslim civil servants.
According to the movement, constructive engagement between the government and religious institutions remains essential to promoting peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and sustainable development.
It urged religious leaders, government officials and other stakeholders to sustain dialogue and cooperation in addressing legitimate concerns, fostering understanding and strengthening unity among the people of Edo State.
The ESM further reaffirmed its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Okpebholo administration, expressing optimism that inclusive policies, sustained engagement and people-oriented governance would strengthen public confidence and accelerate development across the state.
The movement congratulated the governor once again on the honour and commended EDSCIA for recognising efforts towards Muslim inclusion and representation in governance.
It expressed hope that the recognition would inspire further commitment to ensuring that all religious communities in Edo State enjoy equal opportunities, mutual respect and a strong sense of belonging.
