Edo South NDC Ticket: BIBI’s Suit Against Asemota, Party, INEC Listed For Hearing

The legal battle over the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket for the 2027 Edo South Senatorial District election is set to continue, as a suit instituted by Hon. Dr. Sunday Aguebor, popularly known as BIBI, is scheduled for hearing on October 13, 2026, according to a notice issued by the BIBI Campaign Organisation.

The notice, dated October 10 and signed by Comr. Okhilua Osadebamen Spartacus, spokesperson of the organisation, calls on supporters of Aguebor, members of the NDC in Edo State and other interested persons to attend the court proceedings.

The case, which reportedly involves Dr. Mrs. Osayuki Asemota, the NDC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is intended to challenge Asemota’s purported candidacy for the Edo South senatorial seat.

According to the campaign organisation, the legal action is aimed at resolving the dispute surrounding the party’s senatorial ticket and ensuring that the process of selecting its candidate complies with applicable electoral laws and party procedures.

The organisation alleged that the controversy reflects concerns among some party members over the emergence and recognition of candidates. It maintained that the legal process provides an opportunity for the disputed issues to be examined and determined by the court.

The campaign organisation also called on party members and supporters who oppose what it described as political imposition to attend the proceedings, stressing the importance of due process, internal party democracy and respect for the rule of law.

The development comes amid an ongoing dispute over the NDC’s Edo South senatorial ticket. In a separate case, the Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 26, 2026, for judgment in a suit filed by former lawmaker Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, who is challenging the alleged substitution of his name with those of Aguebor and Asemota. Aguebor has contested Agbonayinma’s claims, maintaining that he won the party’s primary.

The two legal matters concern disputes surrounding the party’s nomination process, although they should be treated as separate proceedings.

The BIBI Campaign Organisation urged supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the legal process, expressing confidence that the issues raised would be resolved through the judicial system.

It reiterated its commitment to pursuing the matter until a determination is reached, describing the case as an important step in the effort to resolve the controversy surrounding the NDC’s Edo South senatorial ticket.
