Hon. Prince Samuel Aghedo, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ovia North-East Constituency I in the Edo State House of Assembly, has announced plans to appeal the judgment delivered by the Federal High Court in Benin City on October 26, 2026, concerning the party's primary election for the constituency.

Aghedo, who reaffirmed his confidence in the judicial process, said he remained hopeful that the Court of Appeal would carefully consider the matter and deliver justice in accordance with the law.

In a statement reacting to the judgment, the NDC candidate expressed appreciation to the party's leadership, members, supporters and the people of Ovia North-East Constituency I for their continued support and confidence in his vision for the constituency.

He called on his supporters to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while the appellate process takes its course, urging them to resist provocation and maintain faith in the rule of law.

According to him, the matter goes beyond an individual or a political contest, stressing that the broader concern is the future of the constituency and the need for accountable leadership, effective legislative oversight and purposeful representation that prioritises the welfare of the people.

Aghedo also appealed for unity and steadfastness among his supporters, maintaining that the aspiration for a better Ovia North-East Constituency I should remain paramount despite the legal challenge.

He emphasised the importance of protecting democratic principles and respecting the judicial process, expressing determination to continue pursuing his political ambition through lawful means.

"The will of the people matters. Democracy must be protected, and the hope for a better Ovia North-East Constituency I must never be abandoned," he said.

Reaffirming his commitment to his political vision, Aghedo declared that his resolve remained strong and that his pursuit of purposeful legislative leadership would continue as the legal process unfolds.
