2027: Austine Felix Advocates Competence, Accountability, Youth Empowerment For Akoko-Edo Constituency II

Dr. Austine Oyarekwa Felix, the National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for Akoko-Edo Constituency II in the 2027 Edo State House of Assembly election, has called for a new approach to political representation anchored on competence, accountability, people-oriented policies and sustainable development.

Felix, who is seeking to represent the constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, said the forthcoming election should be about choosing a leader with the experience, character and vision to translate the aspirations of the people into tangible developmental outcomes.

He maintained that the people of Akoko-Edo Constituency II deserved more than political promises and election-season visits, stressing the need for a representative who regards public office as a responsibility to serve rather than an opportunity for personal enrichment.

According to him, effective representation must be measured by the quality of legislation, the strength of advocacy for constituents, the delivery of development projects and the ability to hold government institutions accountable for their responsibilities.

Felix brings more than 20 years of experience in human resources management, organisational development, humanitarian operations and international development across several countries, which he believes provides a strong foundation for purposeful legislative representation.

He argued that leadership should be assessed by the quality of ideas, integrity, competence and measurable results rather than financial inducements during election campaigns.

The NDP candidate identified youth empowerment, quality education, vocational training, mentorship and entrepreneurship development as key areas requiring urgent attention, noting that young people must be equipped with the knowledge and practical skills needed to compete in an increasingly technology-driven economy.

He also emphasised the importance of accountability in public service, proposing a performance-driven approach in which campaign promises are translated into measurable commitments that constituents can assess throughout a representative's tenure.

Under this approach, he said, voters should have the opportunity to ask questions, demand explanations and evaluate the progress made towards fulfilling electoral promises.

Felix further stressed the need for inclusive development across all communities and wards in Akoko-Edo Constituency II, with particular attention to infrastructure, security, education, employment opportunities and improved living conditions.

He noted that development should not be concentrated in a few locations or determined by political affiliations, insisting that every community deserves effective representation and a fair opportunity to benefit from government programmes.

The candidate also called for a shift from what he described as the politics of patronage to a system of governance driven by ideas, performance and accountability.

According to him, the changing demands of the global economy, particularly in technology, education and employment, make it imperative for Akoko-Edo to embrace forward-looking policies capable of preparing its people for emerging opportunities.

He said the constituency's development agenda must extend beyond immediate political considerations to include long-term investments in human capital, economic opportunities and the welfare of future generations.

Felix urged residents, community leaders, youths, women and other stakeholders to participate actively in shaping the constituency's development priorities, describing the people's manifesto as a collective commitment that should guide both electoral choices and public expectations.

He maintained that meaningful representation requires continuous engagement with constituents, regular assessment of community needs and sustained advocacy for policies and projects that address the challenges facing the people.

As political activities gradually build towards the 2027 general elections, Felix called on voters to consider the competence, character, experience and policy direction of candidates before making their decisions at the polls.

He urged the electorate to support his candidacy on the platform of the NDP, presenting his ambition as a call for a more accountable, inclusive and development-oriented approach to legislative representation.

Felix is seeking election to the Edo State House of Assembly to represent Akoko-Edo Constituency II in 2027, with his campaign message centred on competence, vision, accountability and the conviction that every community deserves a voice in governance.

He called on the people to support his aspiration, stressing that the future of Akoko-Edo Constituency II depends on the decisions made today and the willingness of its people to demand purposeful leadership.
