Odii Should Tell Ebonyians What He Has Done Before Making New Promises — Nwedu

Hon. Nwedu A. Nwedu, a member of the Ebonyi State Board of Internal Revenue Service (EBSIRS), has challenged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, to tell Ebonyians what he has done for his community and the state before unveiling new promises ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Nwedu made the remarks while reacting to recent campaign messages by Odii, who has outlined plans covering education, healthcare, agriculture, housing and civil-service reforms if elected governor.

According to Nwedu, many of the issues being presented as future campaign promises are already receiving attention under the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru through the People’s Charter of Needs.

He therefore asked what he described as a simple but important question: “What exactly is new?”

Nwedu said that before promising Ebonyians what a future administration would do, candidates should also present their records of contribution to their communities and the state.

“Mr. Odii, what have you done for your own village and community in Isu-Okoma?” Nwedu asked.

He further challenged the PDP candidate to explain his contributions to Ebonyi State before the commencement of the current election cycle, stressing that leadership should be assessed not only through campaign promises but also through records of service and community engagement.

“Leadership is not only about appearing during election season and making promises. It is also about being present, understanding the people's needs, contributing to the development of your community, and showing a record of service,” Nwedu said.

While Odii has publicly cited private-sector philanthropy and interventions in areas including education, housing and support for vulnerable people as part of his record before seeking office, Nwedu maintained that Ebonyians should scrutinise the records and promises of all political actors ahead of the 2027 election.

Nwedu also argued that the development agenda of the present administration should be considered alongside new campaign proposals, noting that the People’s Charter of Needs is the policy framework guiding Governor Nwifuru’s administration. The official People’s Charter of Needs platform describes the framework as a citizen-focused manifesto centred on meeting the needs of Ebonyians.

He urged Ebonyians to pay attention to what is being promised, what has already been implemented and the records presented by the various candidates as the 2027 election approaches.

“Ebonyians are listening, watching, and comparing the promises being made with what is already happening on the ground,” he said.

Nwedu concluded by expressing support for continuity in the Nwifuru administration, declaring: “FON till 2031 is sacrosanct. FON — unstoppable, unbeatable and unshakable mission.

“The People’s Charter of Needs is continuity.”
