NDC Candidates Take Campaign To Nasarawa Ward, Promise People-Centred Representation
…Residents Turn Out in Support as Mathew Moses, Adams Haruna Ekene Address Constituents
The campaign train of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, moved into Nasarawa Ward in Chikun Constituency of Kaduna State, where party supporters and residents turned out in large numbers to receive the party's candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the NDC candidates to interact directly with members of the community and present their vision for representation and governance.
Speaking at the gathering, Mrs. Selya Phlomon urged the aspirants, if elected, to remain connected to their communities and ensure that the people receive tangible benefits from government. She expressed concern that residents had not benefited sufficiently from the present government and called for a change in the approach to representation.
Also speaking, Mrs. Elizabeth Ifeayin encouraged residents of Nasarawa Ward to dust their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the 2027 elections. She urged the people to come out in large numbers to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
Ifeayin also recalled the contributions of the late Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, who represented the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives before his death in July 2024. During his tenure, he also served as Chairman of the House Committee on Sports.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Adams Haruna Ekene, the NDC candidate for Kaduna Central Senatorial District, spoke on the importance of good governance and effective representation. He called for a governance model that remains responsive to the needs of the people and focused on community development.
Another major speaker at the meeting was Hon. Dr. Mathew Moses, the NDC candidate for the Kaduna State House of Assembly. In his introduction, Moses highlighted his connection with the communities within Chikun Constituency and his record of community-oriented interventions.
According to the presentation at the meeting, Moses has supported several communities through projects and interventions involving solar-powered boreholes and electricity. His supporters also highlighted empowerment initiatives and assistance provided to widows as part of his community engagement.
The candidate's campaign was consequently presented as one that combines political participation with community development and empowerment, with emphasis on projects intended to address practical needs at the grassroots.
The meeting was organised by the Nasarawa Ward Coordinator, Comrade Abigail David, who was described by participants as a committed grassroots organiser and advocate of good governance and effective representation for the people of Nasarawa Ward.
The gathering ended with renewed calls for residents to participate in the electoral process and support candidates they believe can provide effective representation and community-focused governance.
The NDC candidates present at the meeting included Hon. Dr. Mathew Moses, candidate for the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and Hon. Adams Haruna Ekene, candidate for Kaduna Central Senatorial District.
The turnout at Nasarawa Ward underscored the campaign's effort to engage voters directly at the grassroots as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue.
