‘It Is Time To Act’ — Ebonyi ALGON Chairman Aduga Hails Nwifuru’s Leadership Training For Council Leaders
.
The Ebonyi State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Helen Nnenna Aduga, has commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for organising a three-day capacity-building workshop for newly sworn-in local government leaders across the state.
Aduga made the commendation on Thursday, September 24, during the second day of the workshop, which brought together newly sworn-in Council Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Heads of Personnel Management (HPMs), Treasurers, Public Relations Secretaries (PRS) and Development Centre Coordinators.
The workshop, which commenced on Wednesday, September 23, was designed to equip the participants with the knowledge, skills and ethical standards required for effective public service and grassroots administration.
Presentations and guidance are being provided by officials from anti-corruption agencies, relevant government institutions and security organisations, with emphasis on accountability, transparency, public-service ethics, security and adherence to laws and administrative procedures.
Speaking on the significance of the training, Aduga described it as an important foundation for the newly inaugurated local government leadership, stressing that effective governance requires leaders who understand the responsibilities and legal frameworks governing public office.
She said, “It is time to act,” emphasising the need for the new council leaders to translate the knowledge acquired at the workshop into responsible and people-oriented governance at the grassroots.
Aduga also applauded Governor Nwifuru for what she described as a deliberate investment in human capital development and leadership development, noting that the training would strengthen the capacity of local government officials to deliver on their mandates.
According to her, the workshop underscores the importance attached by the state government to accountability, transparency, discipline and effective administration in the local government system.
She further expressed confidence that the new leadership at the grassroots would align its programmes and activities with the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs, while remaining responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people.
The second day of the workshop featured further engagements and presentations aimed at deepening the participants’ understanding of public administration, institutional responsibilities and the demands of leadership.
Aduga’s remarks and active participation during the programme, according to observers at the event, further reflected the importance of coordination and collective responsibility in strengthening grassroots governance across Ebonyi State.
The workshop is expected to continue with further sessions before its conclusion.
