BIBI Expresses Confidence In Judiciary Following Supreme Court Pronouncement On Party Primaries
Hon. Sunny Aguebor, popularly know as BIBI, has expressed confidence in the judiciary following the recent Supreme Court pronouncement on the conduct of party primaries and candidate nomination processes.
BIBI, in a statement, said the apex court's position in the matter involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has further strengthened his conviction that candidates who emerge through duly conducted and INEC-monitored primaries should not be substituted outside the provisions of the law.
According to him, the pronouncement reinforces the importance of internal democracy, due process and compliance with the Electoral Act in the nomination of candidates by political parties.
BIBI maintained that he has consistently held the position that a candidate who validly emerges from a duly monitored primary cannot be replaced through procedures that are inconsistent with the law.
He expressed confidence that the judiciary, as the guardian of justice and the rule of law, would continue to uphold the principles of fairness, due process and electoral integrity in resolving disputes arising from political party primaries and nominations.
“We remain confident in the judiciary and the rule of law. The law must be allowed to take its course, and every candidate who has legitimately emerged through a lawful and properly monitored process deserves the protection of the law,” BIBI said.
He urged his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while continuing to pursue the matter through the appropriate legal channels.
BIBI added that the development further reinforced his belief that the era of arbitrary substitution of candidates outside established legal procedures should come to an end.
“Victory is certain for the person whose time has come. We remain committed to pursuing our case through lawful means and have confidence in the judiciary,” he added.
