Bibi Celebrates Oba Ewuare II, Hails His Contributions To Benin Heritage, Unity

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Edo South Senatorial District, Sunny Aguebor, popularly known as Bibi, has congratulated His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku’Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, CFR, the Oba of Benin, on the occasion of his birthday.

In a goodwill message, Bibi described the revered monarch as a symbol of the rich history, culture and enduring identity of the Benin Kingdom, noting his contributions to the preservation and promotion of Benin heritage since ascending the ancient throne.

Bibi said Oba Ewuare II’s reign has continued to attract national and international attention to the cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom, particularly through efforts to preserve the kingdom’s history and pursue the return of artefacts taken from Benin during the 1897 British invasion.

The Oba’s role in the restitution of Benin artefacts has remained a major feature of his reign. In July 2026, Channels Television reported that the Benin Royal Court had received more than 150 original looted Benin artefacts since the monarch’s ascension to the throne.

Bibi also noted that the birthday celebration comes at a significant period for the Benin Kingdom, as Oba Ewuare II prepares to mark his 10th coronation anniversary.

According to the Royal Palace, the anniversary celebration is scheduled for October 3 to 25, 2026, with a series of cultural, educational, sporting, economic and heritage-focused activities planned across Benin City.

Bibi congratulated the Oba on the milestone and prayed for continued wisdom, strength and good health as he leads the Benin Kingdom.

He further extended his best wishes to the monarch, the Royal Family, the Benin Traditional Council and the people of Edo State, describing Oba Ewuare II as an important custodian of one of Africa’s enduring royal traditions.

Bibi said he joins the people of the Benin Kingdom and well-wishers around the world in celebrating the monarch, wishing him many more years of peace, fulfilment and service to his people.

Happy Birthday to His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku’Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, CFR.
