Bibi Campaign Organisation Denies Defection Rumours, Says Bibi Remains NDC
The Bibi Campaign Organisation (BCO), a support group backing the senatorial ambition of Hon. Sunny Aguebor, popularly known as BIBI, has dismissed reports that its principal has defected from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The organisation described the reports as misinformation allegedly aimed at undermining Aguebor's popularity and support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Okhilua Osadebamen Spartacus, the BCO said Aguebor remains committed to the NDC and has neither defected nor indicated any intention to leave the party.
“Debunk it, I am NDC for life,” Aguebor was quoted as saying in response to the reports.
The campaign organisation said the alleged defection story was capable of creating confusion among Aguebor's supporters and urged members of the public, particularly residents of Edo South Senatorial District, to disregard the claim.
According to the BCO, Aguebor remains in the race to represent Edo South in the Senate and is committed to pursuing what it described as lawful avenues to address the ongoing dispute surrounding the NDC's senatorial candidacy in the district.
The organisation further alleged that there have been attempts by political opponents to undermine Aguebor's efforts to seek redress through the judicial process. It said the matter concerning the party's candidacy is already before the courts and should be allowed to run its course.
The BCO called on Aguebor's supporters and NDC members who, according to the organisation, remain committed to the principles of internal democracy and the rule of law, to remain steadfast.
It maintained that the campaign's struggle extends beyond the political ambition of its principal, describing it as a broader effort to defend democratic values and ensure that what it considers the genuine choice of party members is protected.
“For us, the struggle to reclaim and retain the candidacy of our Principal, goes beyond Hon. Sunny Aguebor aka Bibi. It is about the protection of the democratic values upon which the NDC is founded,” the statement said.
The organisation also appealed to the leadership and members of the NDC to disregard what it described as misinformation surrounding Aguebor's political status.
It further acknowledged supporters and individuals across political party lines who have expressed solidarity with the Bibi campaign and taken an interest in its People's Manifesto, which outlines the candidate's proposed programme of action and legislative agenda.
According to the BCO, the manifesto is intended to place the interests of the people at the centre of governance, with emphasis on social justice and addressing challenges affecting Nigerians.
The organisation said the manifesto was developed as a statement of Aguebor's commitment to people-oriented governance rather than merely an electioneering document.
The BCO reaffirmed its determination to continue pursuing what it described as every lawful means available to secure justice in the ongoing candidacy dispute.
It concluded by urging supporters to remain calm and focused, declaring that the struggle would continue until what it considers victory is achieved.
