Akoko-Edo Needs Leaders Driven By Service, Accountability — Felix
The NDP candidate for Edo State House of Assembly, Akoko-Edo Constituency II, Dr. Austine Oyarekwa Felix, has called for purposeful and accountable leadership capable of driving sustainable development across the constituency.
Oyarekwa Felix made the call in his Sunday reflection message to the people of Akoko-Edo Constituency II, where he described leadership as a responsibility entrusted to individuals by God and one that must be exercised through service to the people.
Reflecting on biblical examples of leadership, including Moses, Joshua, Joseph, David and Esther, the NDP candidate noted that their stories demonstrate that leadership is not merely about occupying a position but about purpose, responsibility, character and service.
According to him, Proverbs 29:2, which states that “when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice,” underscores the importance of choosing leaders who understand that public office is a trust and not a personal possession.
Oyarekwa Felix urged the people of Akoko-Edo Constituency II to look towards the future with renewed hope and support leaders who possess the wisdom to identify opportunities, courage to confront challenges, humility to listen to the people and integrity to place the common good above personal interests.
He said his vision for the constituency is anchored on good governance and accountability, youth opportunities, economic empowerment for women, support for farmers, traders and artisans, quality education and healthcare, infrastructure and rural development, as well as peace, unity and sustainable prosperity.
The candidate also stressed the importance of harnessing the natural resources of Akoko-Edo for community development, while creating opportunities for young people to transform their talents into sustainable livelihoods.
He maintained that politics should be centred on service rather than division, responsibility rather than entitlement, and development rather than empty promises.
Oyarekwa Felix further called on the people to see the development of Akoko-Edo as a shared responsibility, urging them to remain united, seek divine wisdom and support leaders who would serve with integrity, competence, compassion and accountability.
He wished the people of Akoko-Edo Constituency II a peaceful and prosperous future, while soliciting their support for his candidacy ahead of the election.
“May God bless Akoko-Edo Constituency II. May God guide our leaders, strengthen our communities and illuminate the path toward a peaceful and prosperous future,” he said.
