ADC Youth Leadership: Aspirant Urges David Mark To Act On Resignation, Clarify Vacancy
An aspirant for the National Youth Leader position of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Bashir Usman Waziri, has urged the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to urgently act on the resignation of the former National Youth Leader and commence the process of filling the vacant position.
Waziri made the call in a letter dated August 17, 2026, addressed to the National Chairman of the ADC, His Excellency Senator David Mark, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
In the letter titled “Reminder/Urgent Consideration of Expression of Interest for ADC National Youth Leader Position, Urgent Clarification on National Youth Leader Position, Concern Over Former National Youth Leader’s Actions,” Waziri recalled that he had previously submitted expressions of interest for the position following the party’s call for applications.
According to him, the resignation of the former National Youth Leader created a vacancy that requires prompt action to ensure effective coordination of the party’s youth structure, particularly as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
Waziri urged the NWC to expedite the consideration of his expression of interest and facilitate what he described as a smooth transition and continued momentum in the party’s youth engagement.
He, however, expressed concern over what he described as the continued use of the National Youth Leader title by the former occupant after his resignation.
“We are shocked to learn the former National Youth Leader is still acting in that capacity despite resigning,” Waziri stated, arguing that such a situation could create confusion and undermine the party’s democratic principles.
He consequently called on the NWC to act on the resignation, make a clear public announcement regarding the vacancy and restrict the former office holder from continuing to use the title.
Waziri said a formal public clarification was necessary to prevent confusion within the party and among the general public, citing the controversy that followed the case of Nafi’u Bala Gombe, whom he referenced as an example of how uncertainty over party positions could create internal challenges.
He further argued that party leadership positions should not be treated as personal inheritances, stressing that once an office becomes vacant, qualified party members should have an opportunity to seek the position in accordance with the party’s rules.
“The position should NOT be taken as an inheritance that one can contest for another seat, then fail, and still want to reclaim the resigned seat,” he stated, appealing to the party leadership not to establish a precedent that could be replicated by others.
According to him, allowing a former office holder to continue using an official title after resignation raises questions about accountability, fairness and equal opportunity within the party.
Waziri therefore appealed to Senator David Mark and the NWC to urgently resolve the matter in the interest of party cohesion and integrity.
He concluded by expressing confidence that the party leadership would uphold the principles of “fairness, integrity and accountability” in handling the National Youth Leader vacancy.
