Abdulrahman Awal Promises Purposeful Representation For Bida, Gbako, Katcha
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Bida, Gbako and Katcha Federal Constituency of Niger State, Hon. Abdulrahman Awal, has pledged to provide purposeful, inclusive and people-oriented representation if elected to the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
Awal, who emerged as the NDC flag bearer for the constituency following the party’s primary election in May 2026, said his aspiration is driven by a commitment to effective representation, grassroots development and giving the people a stronger voice at the National Assembly.
In a statement issued by his media team on Tuesday, Awal described public office as a responsibility to serve the people rather than merely a position of honour.
He said his agenda would focus on areas capable of directly improving the lives of constituents, including youth empowerment, education, skills acquisition, employment opportunities, community development and improved access to essential social infrastructure.
According to him, effective representation requires a leader who listens to the people, understands their challenges and consistently advocates for practical solutions that can produce meaningful development across the constituency.
Awal also called for unity, collective support and determination among the people of Bida, Gbako and Katcha, stressing that the development of the constituency requires the participation and cooperation of all stakeholders.
The NDC candidate, who has also been described in previous reports as a visually impaired politician and disability-rights advocate, has positioned his political aspiration within the broader call for inclusive participation and representation in Nigeria's democratic process.
He assured constituents that, if given the mandate, he would remain connected to the grassroots and work with dedication to advance their collective interests.
“Hon. Abdulrahman Awal is the voice of the people, the hope of the constituency, and the incoming Member of the House of Representatives for Bida, Gbako and Katcha Federal Constituency, Insha Allah,” the statement said.
Awal further expressed confidence that the mandate would ultimately be delivered through the support of the people, while calling for unity and a shared commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous constituency.
The Bida/Gbako/Katcha seat is expected to be keenly contested in 2027, with Awal facing other candidates seeking to represent the constituency at the National Assembly. Reports indicate that the incumbent lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Saidu Musa Abdullahi, has emerged as the APC’s consensus candidate for the election.
