‎Maulud Celebration: Ado-Iliyasu Begins FCT Community-to-Community Tour, Promises People-Centred Representation‎

‎The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senatorial District, Dr. Ibrahim Ado Iliyasu, MCArb, FICMC, has commenced a grassroots mobilisation tour across communities in the FCT with a promise to strengthen rural representation and ensure that the voices of residents at the grassroots reach government.
‎
‎The initiative, tagged “Community-to-Community” Mobilisation Tour, was launched on Monday, August 24, 2026, during a Maulud celebration in Dei Dei, Bwari Area Council, where residents, community leaders, cultural groups and supporters gathered to welcome the FCT Senate hopeful.
‎
‎Dr. Iliyasu, who described the movement as a journey to engage directly with communities, said the tour was designed to understand the challenges facing residents and develop solutions through partnership with the people.
‎
‎Addressing the gathering, he emphasised that effective representation must begin from the grassroots, noting that communities must be carried along in the process of governance.
‎
‎“We are here today to meet our leaders, our Saraki and our Imam, to seek their blessings and understand the problems of this community so that together we can provide solutions. It is not a one-man business; we are going to work together with the community,” he said.
‎
‎The FCT Senate candidate said his background as someone who understands rural communities gives him a strong connection with residents who often feel left behind in development planning.
‎
‎“I am also from a community like this. If you go to Kwali, it is a small community. If you go to Borno Lada, there are many small communities. We believe that those of us from these communities can come together so that our voices and representation will reach government,” he added.
‎
‎The event featured cultural displays, including performances by community dancers and cultural troupes, as residents celebrated the visit and expressed support for the grassroots engagement initiative.
‎
‎As part of the programme, FreshAir Support Groups provided free sanitary pads to women and girls, an initiative organisers described as part of efforts to support women’s health, dignity and empowerment.
‎
‎Dr. Iliyasu said the empowerment activities were part of a broader commitment to prioritising women, youths and vulnerable groups across the six Area Councils of the FCT.
‎
‎The FCT Senate hopeful has consistently outlined healthcare, youth empowerment, rural infrastructure, women development and equitable representation as key pillars of his political agenda.
‎
‎He said the Community-to-Community tour would continue across different parts of the Federal Capital Territory, with the aim of creating stronger engagement between communities and leadership.
‎
‎The event, which coincided with the celebration of Maulud Nabi, also provided an opportunity for Dr. Iliyasu to extend greetings to the Muslim Ummah, praying for peace, unity and progress across the FCT and Nigeria.
‎
‎He urged residents to continue supporting peaceful and inclusive participation in the democratic process, stressing that sustainable development requires cooperation between leaders and citizens.
‎
‎Dr. Iliyasu maintained that the FCT deserves representation that prioritises the needs of every community, including rural settlements, and reaffirmed his commitment to what he described as service-driven leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
‎
‎“The movement has begun. Together with the people, we will build a stronger and more inclusive FCT,” he said.
