Gov Nwifuru’s Performance Is Opposition’s Biggest Headache Ahead Of 2027 — Nwedu

Hon. Nwedu Abraham Nwedu, a member of the Ebonyi State Board of Internal Revenue Service (EBSIRS), has described the performance of the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Bldr. Prnc. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, as a major political challenge for opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nwedu, in a statement made available to journalists, said the impact of the Nwifuru administration could increasingly be seen across the state's 13 local government areas, arguing that the government's record in infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, workers' welfare, agriculture, and grassroots development would make its achievements a central issue in the coming political contest.

According to him, the administration's emphasis on peace and stability has created a more favourable environment for economic and social activities, stressing that businesses, farmers, traders, and investors require a peaceful atmosphere to thrive.

Nwedu said the governor's education initiatives have also positioned Ebonyi for a stronger knowledge-driven future. He cited the Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science and Technology, Oferekpe-Izzi, and the University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering, Ezza, as examples of strategic investments in specialised education. The ICT university is currently conducting its 2026/2027 admission exercise, while UAAE has commenced admissions for 25 NUC-approved undergraduate programmes.

He also highlighted the administration's scholarship interventions, noting that Governor Nwifuru announced scholarship support for the 187 pioneer students of the ICT university if they were unable to access the Federal Government-backed student loan scheme.

Nwedu further pointed to the governor's broader human-capital agenda, including postgraduate scholarship programmes, youth empowerment, employment initiatives, and other interventions targeted at creating opportunities for Ebonyians.

He said the administration's 2026 budget and government statements also indicate significant investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and empowerment, including support for more than 5,000 beneficiaries across the 13 local government areas and scholarships for more than 1,000 students at the postgraduate level.

On healthcare, Nwedu commended the administration's continued investment in medical facilities, healthcare personnel, emergency response, and access to healthcare services. He said such interventions demonstrate that the welfare of ordinary citizens remains an important component of the People's Charter of Needs.

He also praised the administration's infrastructure programme, particularly road construction and rehabilitation, saying improved connectivity between communities would support agriculture, commerce, security, and grassroots economic activities.

According to Nwedu, the administration's development agenda is significant because it combines physical infrastructure with investments in people.

He said interventions in agriculture, skills development, education, healthcare, workers' welfare, and entrepreneurship could provide citizens with the tools required to improve their livelihoods while strengthening the state's productive capacity.

"How do you campaign against peace, education, healthcare, infrastructure, scholarships, empowerment and opportunities for the people?" Nwedu asked, arguing that the opposition would have to present a convincing alternative rather than merely criticise the government.

He maintained that the 2027 political contest would ultimately provide voters with an opportunity to assess the records, policies, programmes, and achievements of the various political parties and candidates.

Nwedu said Governor Nwifuru's strongest political asset would remain the tangible impact of his administration's policies and projects, rather than political rhetoric.

He expressed confidence that continued implementation of the People's Charter of Needs would further consolidate the administration's achievements and contribute to the long-term development of Ebonyi State.

Nwedu urged supporters of the administration to remain peaceful, issue-focused, and respectful of political opponents as the state gradually approaches the 2027 elections.

He concluded by describing the People's Charter of Needs as a development philosophy centred on responding to the genuine needs of citizens and called for continued support for initiatives capable of advancing the welfare and prosperity of Ebonyians.
