BREAKING: Alia Approves ₦130 Million For BSUTH Staff Allowances, Promotion Implementation
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved and released about ₦130 million for the immediate implementation of key staff welfare packages at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, in a move aimed at boosting healthcare service delivery and improving workers' welfare.
The approved funds will cover the implementation of Specialist Training Allowances for consultants, payment of Medical Residency Training Funds, the first batch of the Nursing Uniform Allowance, as well as the implementation of the 2026 promotion exercise and incremental salary steps for eligible staff.
The state government also assured workers that all outstanding arrears would be settled after the committee set up to verify claims concludes its work on resolving outstanding documentation and entitlement records.
According to the government, some of the approved allowances are tied to the salary and welfare review by the National Income, Salaries and Wages Commission, which was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and took effect from July 2024.
The intervention is expected to enhance staff motivation, improve productivity, strengthen healthcare service delivery, and further demonstrate the Alia administration's commitment to improving the welfare of health professionals across Benue State.
Reacting to the development, the Chief Medical Director of BSUTH, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, commended Governor Alia for prioritising the welfare of healthcare workers and sustaining reforms aimed at improving the quality of medical services in the state.
Dr. Hwande assured members of staff that the hospital management would ensure a transparent and seamless implementation of the approved payments. He also expressed appreciation to the Benue State Government for its unwavering commitment to strengthening the state's healthcare system through strategic investments in personnel welfare.
The latest approval is widely seen as another significant step in the Alia administration's ongoing efforts to improve the working conditions of healthcare professionals and enhance the delivery of quality healthcare services to the people of Benue State.
