Bayelsa Govt Approves Six New Schools To Address Rising Enrolment
The Bayelsa State Government has approved the establishment of six new schools across the state in response to rising student enrolment and overcrowding in existing schools.
The approval was granted by Governor Douye Diri as part of efforts to expand access to quality education and bring learning opportunities closer to communities across the state.
The newly approved schools are:
1. Government Model Secondary School, Olobiri, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
2. Government Secondary School, Ewoama, Brass Local Government Area.
3. Government Secondary School, Kpansia, Yenagoa Local Government Area.
4. Government Secondary School, Amarata, Yenagoa Local Government Area.
5. Government Secondary School and Community Primary School, Azeleke, along the Imiringi Road, Yenagoa Local Government Area.
6. Community Primary School, Yenizue-Epie, Yenagoa Local Government Area.
In a related development, the governor has also approved the takeover of Simon Monday-Bubou Memorial Secondary School, Luduon, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
The school, which is currently funded and administered through community efforts, will now come under the management of the state government.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, said the approvals were aimed at making educational opportunities more accessible to residents, particularly in communities experiencing increased demand for school facilities.
He said the initiative was also consistent with the ASSURED Prosperity Agenda of the Diri administration, which places emphasis on improving the education sector and enhancing the welfare and development of the people.
The establishment and takeover of the schools are expected to ease pressure on existing educational facilities while providing more children and young people with improved access to formal education across Bayelsa State.
