2027: MAI Urges Edo South Voters To Choose Competence Over Party Loyalty

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Matthew Aigbuhuenze Iduoriyekemwen, popularly known as MAI, has challenged voters in Edo South Senatorial District to look beyond political party affiliations and make their choice based on competence, experience, accountability and commitment to the people.

Iduoriyekemwen, who is seeking to represent Edo South in the Senate on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the 2027 election provides an opportunity for voters to critically assess the quality of representation they have received over the years.

He questioned whether continued reliance on the major political parties had produced the desired transformation for the people, urging voters to consider candidates based on their capacity and records of service rather than party names.

“Perhaps it is time to look beyond party names and focus on capacity, experience, competence, accountability and genuine commitment to the people,” he said.

Iduoriyekemwen brings considerable political and legislative experience to the contest. He served two terms in the Edo State House of Assembly, representing Ikpoba-Okha Constituency, where he also held leadership responsibilities.

He later served as Edo State representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), further broadening his experience in public administration and regional development.

A lawyer and businessman, Iduoriyekemwen has also been involved in corporate and entrepreneurial activities, while maintaining a strong presence in Edo State politics and grassroots mobilisation.

His political career has included significant roles within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), before he resigned from the party and joined the ADC, under which he secured the party's ticket to contest the Edo South senatorial seat in 2027.

According to MAI, his aspiration is anchored on the desire to provide effective, purposeful and people-centred representation for the people of Edo South.

He therefore asked voters to reflect on a fundamental question: whether they are prepared to choose competence over familiarity and the people's interest over political convenience.

He said the 2027 election represents another opportunity for the electorate to make their votes count by choosing a representative capable of effectively articulating and advancing the interests of Edo South at the National Assembly.

With the election drawing closer, MAI's campaign is positioning experience, competence, accountability and purposeful representation as key considerations for voters in the senatorial district.
