Ombamdede Commends Alia's Performance, Explains His Support

A Benue indigene, Ormbadede Young, has commended the performance of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, saying his support for the governor is based on the administration's developmental achievements rather than political party affiliation.

In a statement, Young said he supports Governor Alia because of what he described as the administration's commitment to development, stressing that Benue State had long yearned for good governance and an inclusive government that prioritizes the welfare of ordinary citizens.
Reflecting on the state's condition before the current administration, he alleged that Benue's infrastructure was in a deplorable state, with Makurdi lacking the features expected of a modern state capital despite the state's abundant resources. He also criticized previous administrations, alleging that political leaders placed personal interests above the needs of the people and critical infrastructure development.

Young further recalled the hardship faced by civil servants in the past, claiming that workers sometimes went as long as seven months without receiving their salaries, with "paucity of funds" frequently cited as the reason for the delays. He said the situation has improved significantly under Governor Alia's administration.
Speaking on infrastructure, he noted that many residents experienced modern road infrastructure, including flyovers and underpasses, for the first time in recent years. He also claimed that about 45 previously dilapidated roads in Makurdi have been rehabilitated within the governor's first three years in office, describing the development as commendable.

On economic development, Young said Benue has made notable progress in local production, stating that the state now produces goods such as ZEVA Beer, Oyi Bitters, bottled water, bread, nails, malt beverages and fruit juice made from locally sourced oranges and pineapples. According to him, the state has moved beyond being solely a consumer of such products to producing, consuming and exporting them to other parts of the country.
He also praised the administration's investment in education, saying children from less privileged backgrounds can now learn in modern, well-ventilated classroom buildings equipped with facilities that provide a more conducive learning environment.

Describing the governor's achievements as far-reaching, Young said the administration has recorded significant progress across multiple sectors within three years.
He concluded by reiterating his belief that Governor Alia's performance has earned his support, adding that, in his opinion, the governor is "the best thing that has happened to Benue State since Nigeria's return to democratic rule in 1999."
The remarks reflect Young's personal assessment of the Alia administration's performance and the reasons behind his continued support for the governor.
