Nwedu Hails Nwifuru's Landmark Reward For Academic Excellence
The decision by the Ebonyi State Government to grant automatic scholarships and employment opportunities to First Class graduates of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) has been described as a landmark education policy that will redefine the reward for academic excellence and strengthen human capital development in the state.
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru recently announced that every First Class graduate of Ebonyi State University would not only benefit from government-sponsored scholarships but would also be offered automatic employment as lecturers in the institution.
The policy, regarded as the first of its kind since the creation of Ebonyi State, has continued to attract widespread commendation from stakeholders, who say it reflects the administration's unwavering commitment to rewarding excellence and investing in the future of education.
Reacting to the development, Nwedu Abraham Nwedu, a member of the Ebonyi State Board of Internal Revenue (EBSIRS), described the initiative as a bold and visionary intervention that guarantees a brighter future for outstanding graduates of the institution.
According to him, Governor Nwifuru has demonstrated that under the People's Charter of Needs, academic excellence will never go unrewarded.
«"Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has redefined the reward for academic excellence in Ebonyi State. By providing both scholarships and automatic employment for First Class graduates of Ebonyi State University, he has shown that excellence deserves recognition and meaningful opportunities. This is a deliberate strategy to retain our brightest minds, strengthen our university, and build the next generation of professors," Nwedu said.»
He noted that the policy addresses three critical challenges simultaneously by reducing brain drain through the retention of exceptional graduates in Ebonyi State, strengthening EBSU with young and brilliant academics, and motivating students to strive for academic excellence.
Nwedu further stated that while many governments speak about human capital development, Governor Nwifuru is implementing practical policies that will deliver lasting benefits to the education sector and the state at large.
He described the governor as "the most education-friendly governor in Nigeria," adding that the People's Charter of Needs administration has continued to demonstrate that strategic investment in education remains the surest path to sustainable development.
According to him, Governor Nwifuru's scholarship and automatic employment policy is a clear example of systems thinking and long-term planning that will position Ebonyi State as a leader in educational advancement.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would be remembered as one of the most significant education reforms in the history of Ebonyi State, noting that future generations would continue to benefit from the governor's commitment to building a knowledge-driven society.
