Commissioner Drives Agricultural Transformation In Bayelsa Under Diri's Prosperity Administration
The current Bayelsa State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof Beke Tubokiye Sese, is recording unprecedented milestones and giant strides in the agricultural sector of the State, and has through innovative and exemplary leadership continued to drive agricultural transformation in the State under the Prosperity Administration of Governor Douye Diri.
Since his appointment as the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof Sese has continued to demonstrate visionary leadership, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to transforming the state's agricultural sector in line with the development agenda of the Governor Douye Diri's prosperity administration.
Recognised as a renowned agricultural scientist and academic, Prof Sese has spearheaded several strategic initiatives aimed at repositioning the State as a leading agricultural hub, with a strong emphasis on food security, mechanised farming, research, and sustainable agricultural development.
One of the administration's major achievements has been the promotion of food security through expanded mechanised farming. The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has intensified the cultivation of key staple crops, including rice, cassava, and plantain, with the objective of increasing local food production, reducing dependence on imports, and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
In a further effort to ensure year-round agricultural productivity, Prof Sese has successfully launched the 2025/2026 Dry Season Farming Programme. The initiative is designed to enhance all-season farming, increase crop yields, and strengthen food sufficiency across Bayelsa State.
The Commissioner has also strengthened international cooperation in agriculture by facilitating strategic partnerships with the Republic of South Korea. The collaboration has led to the acquisition of modern agricultural machinery and rice processing facilities, significantly boosting the state's capacity for large-scale farming and agro-processing.
Agricultural mechanisation has remained a central focus of Prof Sese's stewardship to the State. Through the deployment of modern farming equipment and improved technologies, the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has continued to reduce reliance on manual labour while encouraging commercial agriculture and greater productivity among farmers.
Beyond infrastructure and mechanisation, Prof Sese has placed strong emphasis on research and innovation. Leveraging his academic background, he has promoted partnerships between the Ministry of Agriculture and higher institutions, particularly the Niger Delta University (NDU), to encourage agricultural research, innovation, and the development of practical solutions to contemporary farming challenges.
Observers have noted that these initiatives align with the vision of Governor Douye Diri's Prosperity Administration to diversify the State's economy, strengthen food security, empower farmers, and create sustainable employment opportunities through agriculture.
As the State continues to implement reforms in the agricultural sector, Prof Sese's leadership is increasingly being recognised as instrumental in laying a solid foundation for a more productive, resilient, and sustainable agricultural economy in Bayelsa State.
These laudable initiatives and milestones and many more have unarguably marked Prof Beke Sese out as the best Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources that Bayelsa State has ever produced. And it is widely believed that he would sustain and keep up the good works in order to assist Governor Diri to take the State to the envisaged political heights at the end of the day, particularly in the areas of agriculture and food security in line with the prosperity mantra of the present administration.
