Ado-Iliyasu Raises Concern Over State Of The Nation, Calls For Transparency And Accountable Leadership

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senate, Dr. Ibrahim Ado Iliyasu, has expressed concern over Nigeria's socio-economic and political situation, calling for greater transparency, accountability, and responsible leadership in addressing the country's growing challenges.

Dr. Iliyasu, a Chartered Arbitrator (MCArb.), Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (FICMC), FCT Director of the International Human Rights Protection Service (IHRPS), and human rights advocate, made the remarks while appearing as a guest on Kaftan TV.

During the programme, he assessed the state of the nation and shared his views on recent developments, including the payroll fraud allegations being investigated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the controversy surrounding the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee (PFIPC), and the reported commendation letter from U.S. President Donald Trump to the Federal Government.

Speaking on the country's current situation, Dr. Iliyasu said many Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardship, insecurity, and declining public confidence in governance.

According to him, the recurring reports of alleged corruption and financial misconduct in public institutions have heightened concerns about accountability and the effective management of public resources.

"Nigerians deserve a government that is transparent, accountable, and committed to improving the welfare of the people. Public confidence can only be restored when allegations of corruption are thoroughly investigated and those responsible are held accountable in accordance with the law," he said.

On the ongoing investigations into alleged payroll fraud and other financial scandals, the FCT Senate candidate reiterated his earlier call for transparent and independent investigations, stressing that every allegation should be subjected to due process while ensuring that individuals mentioned are given a fair opportunity to defend themselves.

Dr. Iliyasu also questioned the significance of celebrating international commendations without corresponding improvements in the daily lives of Nigerians, arguing that the true measure of governance should be reflected in improved security, economic stability, employment opportunities, and better living conditions.

He noted that while international recognition may be encouraging, citizens are more concerned with practical solutions to inflation, unemployment, poverty, and insecurity.

The human rights advocate maintained that Nigeria's democratic institutions must continue to uphold the principles of justice, transparency, and the rule of law, adding that strengthening public institutions is essential to rebuilding trust between government and the people.

Reaffirming his vision for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Iliyasu said his senatorial ambition is anchored on people-centred representation, quality healthcare, youth and women empowerment, rural infrastructure development, protection of vulnerable groups, and equitable representation for all communities across the six Area Councils.

He expressed confidence that the 2027 general elections present an opportunity for Nigerians to elect leaders who are committed to integrity, accountability, and sustainable development.

"Our democracy will only grow stronger when leadership is driven by service, transparency, and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people," he said.
