Father’s Day: Fubara Commends Fathers For Their Sacrifices, Dedication
Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has commended fathers for their unconditional love, sacrifices and unwavering dedication to their families, describing them as the pillars of society and the foundation upon which strong communities are built.
In a goodwill message to commemorate the 2026 Father’s Day celebration, Governor Fubara paid tribute to fathers across Rivers State and Nigeria for their invaluable contributions to family life and societal development.
The governor noted that despite prevailing economic and social challenges, fathers continue to work tirelessly to provide for their families, often making personal sacrifices to ensure a better future for their children.
According to him, Father’s Day presents an opportunity to celebrate the quiet strength, selflessness and enduring commitment that fathers demonstrate every day.
“A father’s love is quiet strength. It is the man who leaves home before dawn and returns after dusk so his children can eat and go to school. It is the man who denies himself so his family can have. It is the firm hand that corrects and the open arms that forgive. That love is the invisible thread that holds our homes together, and that sacrifice is the foundation of our society,” Governor Fubara stated.
He further acknowledged the resilience of fathers who continue to endure hardship and difficult circumstances in pursuit of a better future for their families.
“I have seen fathers labour under the sun, paddle through floods and endure hardship, all so that the next generation will have a better chance than they did. That is heroism without medals,” he said.
Governor Fubara emphasised the critical role fathers play in promoting family stability and societal progress, stressing that strong families are essential for building peaceful and prosperous communities.
“When fathers stand, families stand; when families stand, communities stand; and when communities stand, Rivers State stands,” he said.
The governor added that responsible fatherhood helps nurture responsible sons and daughters who contribute positively to society, thereby fostering peace, unity and development.
He assured that his administration would continue to draw inspiration from the resilience and sacrifices of fathers in its efforts to build a Rivers State that reflects their aspirations and rewards their commitment and hard work.
Governor Fubara also prayed for God’s blessings upon fathers, grandfathers, uncles, guardians and mentors, asking for good health, strength and long life for them to enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Father’s Day is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of June in Nigeria and many countries around the world to honour fathers and recognise their invaluable contributions to the family and society.
