Bayelsa Is On A Clear Path Of Growth, Development — Oredipe
Bayelsa State is on a clear trajectory of growth and development, with significant progress recorded in infrastructure, education, healthcare and urban renewal, according to Mr. Kola Oredipe, Director-General of Bayelsa Government New Media.
Oredipe, who stated this while reflecting on the development journey of the state, said the creation of Bayelsa on October 1, 1996, was a justified response to the aspirations of the Ijaw people for identity recognition and accelerated development.
The Bayelsa Government New Media Director-General noted that despite being one of Nigeria's largest ethnic nationalities and a major contributor to the country's revenue through oil and gas resources, the Ijaw people had for many years experienced inadequate infrastructural and human capital development.
According to him, the establishment of Bayelsa State marked the beginning of a new era of self-determination and focused development for the predominantly Ijaw population.
"The crave for the creation of Bayelsa State was never a misplaced agitation. It was a genuine and timely call for identity recognition and the need to fast-track development in the area," Oredipe said.
He explained that since the return to democratic governance in 1999, successive administrations have contributed significantly to the growth of the state through investments in education, healthcare, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure.
Oredipe particularly commended the administration of Governor Douye Diri, describing the governor as a development advocate, Niger Delta activist and one of the champions of the struggle for fairness, equity, resource control and development in the oil-rich region.
According to the Director-General, Governor Diri has demonstrated a clear understanding of the developmental needs of Bayelsa people through the execution of strategic projects across the state.
He highlighted key achievements of the administration to include the development of the New Yenagoa City with more than six dualised roads at Onopa, the construction of the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge and the commencement of the Nembe-Brass Road project.
Oredipe also cited substantial investments in science, technical and vocational education through the establishment of modern colleges across the state's eight local government areas, as well as ongoing improvements in healthcare infrastructure aimed at expanding access to quality medical services.
He further pointed to the ongoing construction of a nine-storey state secretariat complex at Ovom and a 30,000-capacity Olympic-size stadium at Igbogene as evidence of the administration's commitment to modernising the state's infrastructure.
"The landscape of Yenagoa is changing. So much is happening under the current Government of Assured Prosperity and truly, after many years of creation, the state is on a clear trajectory of growth and development to build a more united, peaceful and prosperous Bayelsa," Oredipe stated.
He maintained that while some residents may desire a faster pace of development, there is no doubt that Bayelsa has recorded remarkable progress over the years and continues to advance steadily toward achieving the vision of its founding fathers. This format places Kola Oredipe and his portfolio in the lead paragraph, then attributes subsequent comments to him in a professional news-writing style.
