Akpe Tasks RDA Chairmen On Grassroots Development, Reaffirms Diri As Bayelsa's Political Captain

Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Pastor Peter Pereotubo Akpe, has charged chairmen of the 32 Rural Development Authorities (RDAs) in the state to intensify efforts towards achieving sustainable grassroots development in line with the Prosperity Administration of Governor Douye Diri.

Dr. Akpe gave the charge on Wednesday during a meeting with the RDA chairmen and senior government officials at his office in Government House, Yenagoa.
According to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Doubara Atasi, the Deputy Governor urged the chairmen to make meaningful impacts in their respective communities and justify the rationale behind the establishment of the RDAs.

He described their appointments as a unique opportunity to leave lasting legacies and contribute meaningfully to the development of their areas, stressing the need for rural dwellers to feel the direct impact of government policies and programmes.
Dr. Akpe also reiterated that Governor Douye Diri remains the sole political leader steering the affairs of Bayelsa State, emphasizing the need for all political appointees to align with and faithfully implement the administration's vision and directives.

"There is only one political agenda in Bayelsa State, and there is only one captain steering the ship of the state. We expect every political appointee to be guided by this reality and work towards a common purpose and direction," he stated.
The Deputy Governor commended several RDA chairmen for their outstanding performance but urged those yet to meet expectations to improve their level of commitment and productivity.

"Your positions as RDA chairmen offer you the opportunity to write your names in gold. It is a privilege that should be utilized to serve the people and create opportunities for greater responsibilities in the future," he said.
He further noted that while many of the chairmen were making commendable progress in their respective areas, others appeared passive and needed to become more proactive.

"The actions you take and the results you deliver will ultimately speak for you. As leaders closest to the grassroots, your impact should be visible and felt by the people. You cannot be part of a boat you do not believe in," Dr. Akpe added.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, Comrade Gowon Toruyouyei; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Thompson Amule; Permanent Secretary and Director of Finance and Accounts in the ministry, Mr. Fred Kemedei; and Dr. Tarila Nikade.

Others present included the Director of Research in the Deputy Governor's Office, Pastor John Ebikake, Director of Local Government Administration, Dr. Friday Egbegi, and other senior government officials.
