After Over 20 Years Of Abandonment, Ebonyi Trade Centre Nears Completion Under Nwifuru

The Ebonyi State Government has recorded significant progress in the completion of the 10-storey Ebonyi Trade Centre complex in Abakaliki, a landmark project that was abandoned for more than two decades by successive administrations.

Providing an update on the project, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Documentation, Dr. Boniface Nwankwo, said the structure, which had remained dormant for over 20 years despite its strategic economic importance, is now nearing completion under the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru after successfully passing integrity tests that certified it fit for completion.
According to Dr. Nwankwo, partitioning works within the complex have been fully completed, while finishing works, including the installation of tiles, windows and doors, are currently underway alongside other fittings required to prepare the facility for commissioning.

He noted that the Governor Nwifuru-led administration took the decision to complete the project after structural assessments confirmed its integrity, in line with the government's commitment to maximizing public investments and delivering critical infrastructure to the people of Ebonyi State.

"The successful revival of the Ebonyi Trade Centre demonstrates Governor Nwifuru's resolve to ensure that projects abandoned by previous administrations are completed and put to productive use for the benefit of the people," he stated.

Dr. Nwankwo further explained that the ongoing work reflects the administration's broader commitment under the People's Charter of Needs agenda to accelerate infrastructure development, stimulate economic growth and ensure prudent management of public resources.

He emphasized that the completion of the Trade Centre would not only preserve a major public investment but also contribute significantly to the state's economic development by creating opportunities for commerce, investment and employment.

When completed, the Ebonyi Trade Centre is expected to serve as a major commercial hub, attracting businesses and investors while strengthening Abakaliki's position as a growing centre for trade and economic activities in the South-East region.

The project is one of several infrastructure initiatives currently being pursued by the Nwifuru administration as part of efforts to transform Ebonyi State and deliver sustainable socio-economic development to its people.
