2027: AMAC/Bwari Reps Aspirant, Dr. Stephen Ukpai Ohafia, Vows To Be Strong Voice For Constituents
An aspirant for the House of Representatives seat for AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. Dr. Stephen Ukpai Ohafia, has pledged to provide strong representation and champion the development needs of the constituency if elected in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview, Dr. Ukpai, a member of the Knights of St. John International and a Catholic Knight, said his decision to contest for the National Assembly was informed by his extensive engagement with communities across the constituency.
According to him, visits to the 22 wards that make up the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency revealed a significant gap in representation at the National Assembly.
"Having gone round the 22 wards of AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, I realized that our people lack a strong voice in the National Assembly. This inspired me to volunteer myself to become that voice and to attract the needed development to the Federal Capital Territory," he said.
The aspirant, who is seeking to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives, expressed concern over what he described as a disconnect between legislators and the executive arm of government in the FCT. He noted that this situation has contributed to uneven development and inadequate implementation of constituency projects across communities.
"There is a gap between the legislators and the executive in the FCT. As a result, attention is often focused on the activities of the FCT Administration, while many communities continue to lack the developmental projects they deserve. I intend to bridge that gap and ensure equitable development across our villages and wards," he stated.
On youth development, Dr. Ukpai emphasized the need to invest in young people, describing them as the foundation of national progress. He outlined plans to facilitate educational support, foreign scholarship opportunities, skills acquisition programmes, employment opportunities, business grants, contract opportunities, and other empowerment initiatives.
"As a youthful leader below the age of 40, I understand the importance of building the youth because building the youth translates to building the nation. We have numerous plans aimed at empowering young people and creating opportunities for them to thrive," he said.
Explaining what distinguishes him from other aspirants, Dr. Ukpai cited his youthful energy, grassroots connection, and commitment to development.
"I am a strong voice for the people. I am youthful and, perhaps, the youngest among the aspirants. I possess a high level of developmental consciousness and maintain close engagement with the grassroots," he added.
The aspirant urged residents of AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency to support his ambition, assuring them that he would provide the representation needed to attract meaningful development to the area.
He also encouraged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 elections.
"Everybody should get their PVC and prepare to participate actively in the democratic process. Together, we can rescue our country and build a better future. Hope is here, and Nigeria will certainly be OK," he said.
