Tinubu Appoints Professor Segun Aina As New JAMB Registrar
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second tenure will expire on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is widely regarded as a distinguished academic, systems expert, and public-sector reform specialist with extensive experience in examination administration, digital infrastructure, and institutional transformation.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
According to the statement, Aina began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early exposure to the Board’s admissions and data management systems — an experience said to have influenced his later contributions to examination reforms and digital process optimisation.
With more than 15 years of professional experience, the incoming registrar has worked at the intersection of technology, governance, and institutional reform, advising both federal and state governments on digital transition strategies and operational efficiency.
At the age of 39, Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
He has also served as consultant to several examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and various state ministries of education, particularly in the areas of ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process management.
Professor Aina is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed confidence that the new appointee would leverage his expertise and experience to consolidate on the achievements recorded by Professor Oloyede and further strengthen the operations of the nation’s admissions body.
