Pioneer Airlines Begins Flight Operations As Governor Diri Becomes Passenger 1A
The Bayelsa State Government on Monday officially commenced non-scheduled flight operations under its partnership with Pioneer Airlines, marking the state’s entry into the commercial aviation sector.
The inaugural flight, operated with one of the ATR 72-600 aircraft acquired by the Bayelsa State Government, departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 11:10 a.m. after receiving clearance from the control tower and arrived at the Bayelsa International Airport at 12:15 p.m.
The historic flight was piloted by Captain M. Ibrahim alongside First Officer Joyce, a female co-pilot, signaling a significant milestone in the airline’s operations.
On board the aircraft was the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, who occupied Seat 1A as the symbolic first passenger of the new operation.
Also on the flight were former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Gabriel Onyenwife; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters I, High Chief Collins Cocodia; and five aides of the governor.
Speaking after the successful flight, Governor Diri expressed satisfaction with the comfort and quality of service provided by Pioneer Airlines, while reiterating confidence in the airline’s ability and capacity to deliver efficient services.
The governor noted that the partnership with Pioneer Airlines represents another strategic step toward expanding Bayelsa State’s internally generated revenue base and positioning the state as an emerging hub in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The launch of the flight operations further underscores the Diri administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, economic expansion, and transformational governance aimed at positively changing the Bayelsa narrative.
