Otti Confident Of Completing Eight-Year Mandate In Abia

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed strong confidence in completing his eight-year tenure, reaffirming his commitment to delivering on his administration’s development agenda across the state.

The governor made this known on Tuesday while receiving members of the Old Students Association of the Federal School of Arts and Science, Aba at Government House, Umuahia. The alumni were on a courtesy visit as part of activities marking their bi-annual meeting, hosted in Abia State.
Addressing his guests, Otti said that although political activities ahead of the 2027 elections were approaching, his administration remains focused on governance and service delivery.

“About 2027, we will not allow it to distract us. Primaries will come, and elections will follow next year, but Abia people understand what is good for them,” the governor stated.

He emphasized that the progress recorded under his administration would guide the electorate’s decisions, adding that his government is confident of completing its mandate.
“This is God’s own state, and at the appointed time, He makes changes. God does not embark on unfinished projects, and we are confident that we will complete the assignment given to us by Abians,” he said.

Governor Otti commended the alumni association for undertaking the renovation of one of the hostels in their alma mater, describing the initiative as commendable and a demonstration of commitment to educational development.

“I thank you for your decision to fix one of the hostels. It is a laudable effort, and I encourage you to sustain this spirit of giving back to your school,” he added.
The governor also appreciated the association’s decision to host its bi-annual meeting in Abia, noting that the choice reflects growing confidence in the state’s improved security and infrastructure.

On power development, Otti reiterated his administration’s support for Professor Bart Nnaji in advancing the Aba power project. He revealed that the state government had signed agreements toward acquiring the Umuahia ring-fenced operations of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
According to him, the plan would enable the extension of electricity from Aba to the remaining eight local government areas in Abia Central and Abia North senatorial zones.

“With an additional turbine, power generation will increase to about 188 megawatts. The idea is to distribute excess power from Aba to other parts of the state,” Otti explained.

He further disclosed that the state had established the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Agency, positioning it to manage its power sector independently of the national grid.

Earlier, the President of the alumni association, Pharmacist Tony Ejieji, commended the governor for his developmental strides, noting that the state has become safer and more attractive for events and investments.

He said the association chose Abia as the venue for its meeting due to noticeable improvements in security and infrastructure, adding that members had visited key projects, including the Geometric Power Plant in Aba.

Ejieji urged the governor to sustain the momentum and complete ongoing projects, expressing confidence that the administration’s achievements would not be reversed.

The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, alongside other members of the State Executive Council and senior government officials.
