Nwifuru's People-Centred Policies Driving Quiet Economic Revolution In Ebonyi — Aide

The Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State on New Media, Mr. Leo Ekene Oketa, has said that the people-centred policies and economic interventions of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru are gradually transforming the state's economy and improving the living conditions of citizens.

Oketa, in a statement issued on Saturday, described the ongoing transformation as a "quiet economic revolution," noting that its impact is becoming increasingly evident in homes, businesses, markets, and financial institutions across the state.

According to him, indications of economic improvement were highlighted during a discussion with a senior banking executive in Abakaliki, who observed a steady increase in the savings culture among residents of the state since Governor Nwifuru assumed office.

The governor's aide explained that the growing ability of citizens to save money after meeting their daily needs is a key indicator of economic stability, increased business confidence, and improved household welfare.

"When citizens are able to save, it means families have some breathing space after meeting their basic needs. It means traders have capital to reinvest, businesses can plan ahead, and people are beginning to think about the future rather than merely surviving the present," he said.

Oketa attributed the development to a series of deliberate economic policies implemented by the Nwifuru administration, particularly direct empowerment programmes coordinated through the Ministries of Human Capital Development and Commerce and Industry.

He noted that thousands of beneficiaries across the state have received financial support aimed at expanding businesses, supporting livelihoods, and creating sustainable economic opportunities.

The governor's aide further commended the administration's policy of prioritising local contractors in the execution of government projects, describing it as a strategic move that keeps public funds circulating within the state economy.

According to him, local contractors employ indigenous workers, patronise local suppliers, and stimulate economic activities across communities, thereby creating a multiplier effect that benefits a wider segment of the population.

Oketa also highlighted Governor Nwifuru's efforts in addressing long-standing gratuity arrears owed to retired civil servants, describing the payment of billions of naira in outstanding benefits dating back to 1996 as one of the administration's most impactful economic interventions.

He said the payments had restored dignity to retirees while simultaneously injecting purchasing power into the local economy through increased spending on housing, education, healthcare, transportation, and small-scale investments.

"The money paid to retirees did not disappear. It found its way into markets, shops, schools, hospitals, transport services, and numerous other sectors of the economy, thereby stimulating economic activities across the state," he stated.

The governor's aide also pointed to the introduction of free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for workers as another initiative helping citizens reduce transportation costs and redirect savings toward other essential needs.

He added that various welfare packages introduced for workers have enhanced productivity, boosted morale, and strengthened financial security among public servants.

Oketa maintained that the cumulative impact of these policies is gradually reshaping the economic landscape of Ebonyi State, even at a time when many parts of the country continue to grapple with significant economic challenges.

He stressed that the evidence of progress is visible not only in official records and economic indicators but also in the experiences of ordinary citizens, including traders expanding their businesses, retirees enjoying improved livelihoods, and workers benefiting from reduced transportation costs.

"What we are witnessing in Ebonyi is not magic. It is the result of policies that place people at the centre of development, ensure public spending reaches citizens, empower local businesses, support workers, and reward retirees for their years of service," he said.

Oketa concluded that the growing optimism among residents and the increasing confidence within the business community are clear signs that Ebonyi State is steadily building a story of resilience, inclusion, and sustainable prosperity under the leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. This version follows a standard newspaper/reporting style, removes the first-person narrative, and attributes all claims to Leo Ekene Oketa as the source.
