Nwifuru Hails Peaceful APC Reps Primaries In Ebonyi
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries held across Ebonyi State as peaceful, calm and largely free of rancour.
The governor made the remarks while speaking with journalists shortly after monitoring the primary elections across the six federal constituencies in the state.
According to him, reports received from different parts of the state indicated that the exercise was conducted smoothly without major incidents.
Nwifuru commended party stakeholders and leaders for ensuring a hitch-free process, noting that the party was consolidating on its earlier consensus arrangements.
“Our primaries across the six federal constituencies were very peaceful, calm and devoid of rancour among all contestants,” the governor stated.
Speaking on aspirants who reportedly opposed the consensus arrangements, Nwifuru said their actions remained within democratic principles and should not be viewed negatively.
“Those who are contesting are in line with democratic ideals. Some of our members resigned their positions, and resignation does not equal incompetence,” he said.
The governor explained that the affected members chose to pursue their political ambitions based on personal convictions, stressing that democracy thrives on healthy opposition and participation.
“We accepted their resignation and wished them well. Our happiness is that the outing today went as planned and expected. It was very peaceful and calm,” he added.
Nwifuru also urged party members to actively participate in the remaining primaries scheduled for next week.
The statement was issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor.
