Golden Jubilee: Ikuli Celebrates 50th Birthday with Family, Highlights Value of Parenthood

A Bayelsa-based public affairs commentator and media aide, Wisdom Oniekpar Ikuli, has shared a touching account of how he marked his 50th birthday, describing a heartfelt moment with his daughters as the most cherished highlight of the celebration.

Ikuli, who serves as Technical Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to the Bayelsa State Governor and is a former mobilization director of the Ijaw Youth Council, noted that his golden jubilee was widely celebrated by family members, friends, and well-wishers.
According to him, although the main celebration took place a day earlier, two of his daughters—Sophia and Precious—were unable to attend due to their academic commitments. Determined not to leave them out, he said the family paid them a visit the following day, bringing along cake, snacks, and specially prepared meals.

He explained that his daughters have a fondness for homemade dishes such as okro soup, rice and beans, which he personally takes time to prepare. Despite the exhaustion from the previous day’s activities, Ikuli said he made the effort to cook and deliver the meals to them and their friends.
Upon arrival, he recounted that the students were already waiting in anticipation. In a gesture that deeply moved him, his daughters insisted on using their own money—rather than his—to buy something for their parents. They eventually purchased ice cream as a token of appreciation.

Ikuli said the gesture, though simple, carried profound emotional significance, symbolizing the love and gratitude of his children. He added that the moment transcended the material value of the gift, describing it as one of the most meaningful experiences of his life.
Reflecting on the occasion, he expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness, grace, and continued protection over his family, emphasizing the importance of love, sacrifice, and strong family bonds.
